Reasons for damage to voltage regulator rectifier diodes

When the reverse voltage borne by the voltage regulator rectifier diode is greater than its nominal voltage regulation value, the voltage regulator will reverse breakdown to limit the voltage upper limit. After breakdown, the voltage at both ends of the voltage regulator will reach its regulated value.

This kind of breakdown can be restored, that is, after the voltage value decreases, the voltage regulator rectifier diode will break out of the breakdown state, which is equivalent to an open circuit. If the voltage regulator rectifier diode circuit has a short circuit, it indicates that the voltage regulator has been damaged, caused by the current exceeding the current capacity of the voltage regulator, which is thermal breakdown and cannot be restored.
